University campuses are always bubbling with events – a great opportunity to encourage more relevant social media interaction and promotion.

Ambiánce provides a way to visualise the social media coverage of events around campus through a mobile application and interactive visualisation table, using geo-location and hashtag data taken from social media.

01 Understanding

Campus events don't get enough social media presence, because content is spread out over so many different platforms.

I conducted a questionnaire and found that event awareness is limited. With that in mind, my solution was twofold –

Mobile Application 

Augmented reality camera to visualise aura in person

Ability to synchronise social media platforms

Social media feed built from source hashtag/geolocation data

Real time updating of visualisation

History of campus aura (daily, weekly, monthly)

Installation

02 Design

Visual Style

I chose a vibrant and loud mood that complements abstract and organic forms. As an application that visualises campus aura, it only makes sense to have a vibrant scheme.

Wireframes

As an event-based application, Ambiánce had to represent all the attributes of events appropriately, from the category, to the event's aura, to the event details. 

03 Solution

The final composition lives up to the hype that the application promises to bring with carefully placed graphical elements and attention-catching visualisations of campus event aura.

Browse through a social media feed built from hashtag and geolocation data, to see what events are happening on campus.

Real-time Aura Map 

View a real-time visualisation of the aura around each event on a map of the campus. Tap on an aura bubble to view the events nearby.

Aura in your Environment

Hold the camera up to a building or an area to visualise the surrounding aura.

Graphed Aura History 

See a graphical representation of the aura history of campus.

Ambiánce brings campus events into the spotlight by encouraging social media posts and interaction.

By providing aura visualisations as a platform for users that are both seeking out events and promoting events, Ambiánce is a great tool for seeing event-related content on social media, all in the same place, serving as the bridge between social media content aggregation and event promotion.
